CRAFTBOX EXPLODED. Yggdrasyl Downtime

Postby Inscrutable » Thu Sep 10, 2015 7:35 pm

Bad news. The Box I have been running Yggdrasyl Server on has had a serious hardware meltdown.
After several weeks of troubleshooting, I think I have it isolated to the motherboard.
However, there aren't many good options for an old Socket 1155 CPU (i7-2600), so I have decided
to upgrade completely to a new system, featuring a Skylake CPU and SSD.
This may take a few more weeks to get together and running (D-I-Y).

In the meantime, I have a cut-down Yggdrasyl running from the LapTop I am using, featuring only
the world Arboria, and without mcMMO (or anything else that needs money or MySQL). It is up
only in the evenings (~7pm - 1am, AEST), until I can rebuild Yggdrasyl Server again on the new box.

I'll post the hardware list when the new PC is all together, but for now I'll just say i7-6700K.

Yggdrasyl Server is Back!

I have completed testing on the new box, and all is awesome.

Here are the technical specs - it's not just a server box.
Monolith, as I call it, is a powerhouse for music recording, data crunching, and fancy graphics.

CPU: i7-6700K @4.2 GHz (4 cores + hyperthreading)
Cooling: Nepton 240 Liquid Cooler
RAM: 16GB Corsair (2 x 8GB 3200MHz OC DDR4)
MOBO: Gigabyte Z-170 Gaming 5
SSD: Samsung EVO-850 250GB (SATA)
HDD: Toshiba 2GB 7200rpm (+ 1GB WDD + 250GB WDD ex CraftBox)
GPU: AMD Radeon R9-390X (8GB)
Case: BeQuiet Silent Base 800
PSU: BeQuiet Dark Power 850
Plus the old DVD-RW and Dell 1080p monitor from CraftBox
OS: Win 10 (updated from 64 bit Win 8.1).

The CPU runs happily at ~20-30*C, or up to 50*C when I really tax it ;)
The GPU is a toaster, and likes to idle at 50-60*C... and is almost silent even when I do ramp it up.
All in all, this turned out to be a pretty good system. The only hiccup I have:
The Mobo support for XMP2.0 is poor, so I haven;t yet been able to get the RAM up to full speed.
It's still at 2133MHz, so I either have to update the BIOS or set it all manually :P

Try it out, see what you think. This and maxxed out NBN mean Yggdrasyl server is faster than ever :D
